Remembering John Glenn

NEW CONCORD, Ohio- John Glenn was a hero across the country and in New Concord where he grew up.

Dr. Lorle Porter, said Glenn was all about helping others.

“He’s always thought of himself as being born to do service to others,” Muskingum University Professor, Dr. Lorle Porter said. “That’s an old Presbyterian guideline. That’ what both [John and Annie Glenn] of them have done. Both of them grew up in an atmosphere in which you serve others, and with him it was in the military, he hadn’t attended to do that.”

Muskingum University, Board of Trustees chairman, Hal Burlingame describes Glenn’s legacy.

“I’ll say it from a Muskingum perspective,” Burlingame said. “They represent the kind of values, the kind of aspirations, that I hope we are able to share with students who come here to Muskingum. Now, not many people well have the kind of life experience they [John and Annie] have had. But we’re just so fortunate to have them as a part our larger family.”

Glenn had been hospitalized for a week at OSU Medical Center before his death Thursday afternoon.
