Woodlawn Avenue cleaned of Debris

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Woodlawn Avenue may be looking cleaner after today. The Zanesville Police Department, Public Service, and Building and Code Enforcement had a collaborative effort to clean up the loose debris.
Building and Code Enforcement Supervisor, Tim Smith said they started cleaning at 9:00 A.M. and it took them about an hour and a half to finish. Smith says they picked up discarded items left by passer-by’s and the homeless.
“The new [Zanesville] Police Chief Tony Coury mentioned that we really needed to do something about cleaning up the back of Woodlawn Cemetery,” said Smith. “So with the help of public service and some prisoners and public safety department, we undertook that clean up today. ”
Smith said they filled about 30 contractor trash bags and Sanitation Department furnished a compactor for them to use.
“We actually started up behind Woodlawn Cemetery started on the corner of Pershing [Road] and Woodlawn [Avenue] and worked our way down the railroad tracks and then went down and did the gate at the end of Weller [Avenue] and then cleaned up this alley behind this building right here,” Smith said.
Smith said that they’ll normally discuss during their monthly meetings what roads need cleaned and they’ll clean up those needed areas during the winter months.
