Local Cheerleaders to Compete in World Championship

A local cheerleading squad is headed to the World Championships in Florida this weekend.

The Matrix Allstars “Vortex” team has cheered and tumbled their way to the world competition at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.

Local team members, Riley and Regan Lent of Maysville, said their squad will compete against more than 80 small co-ed teams from all over the world. They told us a little more about their routine.

“It’s a two minute and 30-second routine and we stunt, tumble, and dance, and we do a bunch of choreography and stuff,” Riley Lent said. “We tumble and we’re the flyers, so they throw us in the air and hopefully catch us, they always catch us.”

The highly competitive squad, out of Columbus, won an invitation to the exclusive event. After competing all over the country this year, the girls said they hope to make it to the top 10.

“We got our world’s bid at NCA, which is the biggest cheerleading competition in the world,” Lent said. “It’s our first time going to world’s, so that’s exciting.”

The three-day long competition kicks off Friday morning and runs through Sunday evening.
