Ralph Burri

Ralph Burri 2

Ralph Burri, age 90, of Brownsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 14th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 6th, 1935, in Switzerland, Ralph was the beloved son of Gertrude Burri. He spent his early years in Switzerland before immigrating to the United States at the age of 16, a courageous step that marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
Ralph proudly served in the United States Army and later worked as a semi-truck driver, a career he pursued until his retirement. He was known for his dedication, work ethic, and the respect he earned from colleagues and friends alike.
Ralph found joy in the simple pleasures of life and had a personality full of charm and humor. He loved spending time with family and attending cookouts and outings. He also enjoyed spending time on the golf course, playing slot machines, and betting on dog races at Wheeling Downs, where he found excitement and fun. One of his favorite routines was going to the mall to have coffee with longtime friends, sharing stories and laughter. Ralph also took great pride in maintaining a well-manicured lawn. He shared a very special bond with his cat, Oreo, who brought him companionship and comfort in his later years.
He is survived by his beloved spouse of 45 years, Juanita Burri, and his five children: Cindy (Christopher) Calderwood, Cathy Burri, Tony Burri, Stephanie (Cody) Polansky, and Orson Burri (Kimberly Reed). Lovingly known by his grandchildren as “Papaw Hat,” he was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Brook Kidd, Lindsey McLaughlin, JD Priest, Alexus Partin, Brooklind Reed, and Sophie Polansky. He also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Ralph leaves behind beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A special thank you to the healthcare staff at Genesis Healthcare System in Zanesville, Ohio, for the outstanding care and compassion they provided to Ralph and his family in his final days. Gratitude is also extended to Dr. Monk of The James Cancer Hospital, who treated Ralph over the last decade with extraordinary care. A very special thank you to Ralph’s niece and nephew, Bonnie and Dave Burns, for being there to help the family navigate Ralph’s final days.
In accordance with Ralph’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. The family will host a private celebration of life at a later date for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to FARA – Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (www.curefa.org) in honor of his beloved great-granddaughter, Lilian McLaughlin, who continues to inspire all of those around her.
