Transitions Inc. receives a grant to help survivors of domestic violence

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A local non-profit has received a grant of over $38,000 to support survivors of domestic violence. The Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS) under the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act awarded Transitions Inc. of Zanesville $38,688 to support their ongoing services.
Transitions Inc. is non-profit dedicated to intervening in and preventing domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual abuse for Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan Counties. According to Katie Oberhauser, the executive director. grants like this are becoming harder to secure which makes this opportunity mean more to the organization.
“Transitions is incredibly grateful for this grant that we received from OCJS. These funds will help us continue the work that we’ve been doing. So operating our emergency shelter, that crisis hotline, and our court advocacy programs,” Oberhauser said.
According to Transitions Inc., the non-profit has provided 2,928 nights of safety, advocacy in 432 court cases, and answered 3,395 crisis calls on their hotline in 2024. Oberhauser says these services are entirely dependent on grants like this.
“Between grants and community support, that is how we keep the doors open. All of our services are offered at absolutely no cost to survivors domestic violence and human trafficking. So all of it comes from grants and donations and things like that,” Oberhauser said.
