ZANESVILLE, OH – Music, mutts, and making a difference. That’s what’s coming up at the Animal Shelter Society.

The shelter is hosting its second annual Music for Mutts on Tuesday, October 7th from 6 to 8 p.m., weather permitting. Gates open at 5:30 at the shelter’s parking lot, located at 1430 Newark Road in Zanesville. Guests can enjoy live music from the Party Band, food, and more. It’s a 20-dollar donation per person, with all proceeds supporting the shelter.

“We use that $20 to help us with the over 100 animals in our care. We have over 60 kittens that are under five weeks of age, and they’re not going to be available for adoption for some time. That $20 helps.” Executive Director of the Animal Shelter Society, April Gibson said.

September 25th marks the first anniversary of the passing of Miss Tess, the shelter’s beloved canine ambassador. In her honor, a Facebook contribution fund will be set up, with proceeds helping the shelter continue its mission.

“I pulled off the dog floor Tess and taught her sign language. In three and a half years, Tess and I did 411 community events.” Gibson said. “She supported us. She was always right there. You could not stop that dog. She wanted to get out there, and she loved children.”

The shelter is currently in need of supplies like puppy chow, liquid laundry detergent, six percent bleach, and 35-gallon black trash bags. Donations can be dropped off during customer service hours.
