Two-Vehicle Fatal Crash in Perry County

LANCASTER – The Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash.
The crash occurred Saturday , September 27th, at approximately 3:41 p.m., on Chapel Hill Road near State Route 13, in Monroe Township, Perry County.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2007 Nissan Altima, operated by David Franks, 51, Corning, was traveling east on Chapel Hill Road. A 1999 Honda Civic, operated by Donald Bernard, 32, Corning, was traveling west on Chapel Hill Road. The Honda traveled left of center and struck the Nissan. After impact, the Nissan traveled off the right side of the roadway.
Authorities said Donald Bernard succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. David Franks sustained serious injuries and was transported from the scene by Air Evac to Grant Medical Center and is listed in stable condition.
The Patrol was assisted at the scene by Corning Fire and EMS, New Lexington Fire and EMS, Roseville Fire and EMS, Air Evac, and the Perry County Engineer’s Office.
