ZANESVILLE, OH – It’s October first, and while pumpkins are in season, so is saving money.

Columbia Gas says now is the perfect time to make small changes around the house that can lead to big saving on your winter bills. Simple steps like setting your thermostat and suing its schedule function can cut costs. Using the dishwasher instead of washing by hand saves water and energy, and don’t forget to seal cracks and leaks around windows and doors to keep the warm air in. Columbia Gas also recommends getting your furnace inspected by an HVAC technician to make sure it’s ready for the colder months.

“Get your furnace inspected by a professional HVAC tech every year. They’re going to make sure it runs properly and smoothly. Some other things you can do is turn down your temperature when you leave your house or when you’re sleeping at night. Just by turning your temperature down a few degrees, it can really save on energy.” Erica Chronaberry, the Communications Director for Columbia Gas of Ohio said.

For customers who qualify, the Warm Choice Program offers free energy-saving upgrades, like insulation and furnace tune-ups. Columbia Gas says it’s one way to help customers stretch their budgets during the colder months.

“We have a program called the Warm Choice Program, and income-eligible customers may benefit from this program because it provides qualified customers with free weatherization services year around. Things like air sealing, natural gas appliance repair or replacement, wall insulation, and more. So, it is a really great program for those customers who qualify.” Chronaberry said.
