Operation Spirit 4 Troops to host annual yard sale that supports military care packages

ZANESVILLE, OH- Operation Spirit 4 Troops is getting ready to host its 10th annual yard sale fundraiser in Zanesville.

The event is set for October 2nd through the 4th at 816 Maple Avenue off McIntire Avenue. Shoppers can stop by from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the second, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the third, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the fourth.

The group has been supporting troops since 2003 by sending care packages around the world. All proceeds from the sale go towards creating and shipping those packages.

“There’s all kinds of opportunities…we’ve shifted over to some veteran support too where we can fill a need, but there are so many people out there that don’t have anybody,” said Operation Spirit 4 Troops Director, Melodie Pittman.

Pittman says the mission started after sending packages to her own son in the military, and it has grown to impact many of service members.

“I get Girl Scout Cookies through their Operation Salute program, so I have an address book with veterans addresses, so I send them cookies every spring, I sent one to a Chaplain that I just adore, and this year I didn’t send him some, I think he was trying to lose weight haha, so I sent him a box and he said ‘thank you for the care package, it’s so nice to be remembered’ and then he said ‘you were the best part of Iraq’” said Pittman.
