ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Redemption Through The Lens is a book that highlights the success of some unsung tax-payer based programs that work with local individuals struggling with addiction.

The Muskingum County Library System will be showcasing Local Author Leah Nairn, who is documenting the efforts being made by local social workers in carrying out the curriculum offered through those obscure programs.

“‘Redemption Through The Lens’ is a book that I put together in this past year to focus on recovery from drug addiction,” Nairn said. “Everyone that’s featured in the book is someone who’s been incarcerated due to drug addiction. And they are now on the other side of it and we feature their stories. Not necessarily how they got there but how they’re moving and living now and how they maintain their sobriety.”

Nairn witnessed the cases that are presented in the book first hand as a probation officer and asked them to explain which services worked best for them and how those services made a difference in their lives.

MCLS will be hosting a book discussion featuring ‘Redemption Through The Lens,’ which will explain the impact that drug use is having on Muskingum County as well as the efforts being made to minimize that impact.

“It’s an hour-long presentation but it’s not just going to be me talking about the book,” Nairn said. “I’ve divided up… It’s really just going to be… I’m going to just do about 15 minutes then I’m going to hand the mic over to the other three. Like Jeff for example is going to talk about sober communities, sober support communities, ie alcohol and narcotics anonymous. Mary Beth, she’s actually a counsellor, and she’s going to talk about what people go through counselling and the current state of that industry and that field right now. And Mallory is going to speak about re-entry coalition.”

The book discussion will take place from 6 to 7 this Thursday evening at Ohio University Zanesville’s Herrold Hall Library and registration through the MCLS website is requested.
