The Zanesville Museum of Art hosted its Annual Muskingum County K-12 Student Art Exhibition on Sunday.

For nearly 60 years the Zanesville Museum of Art has collaborated with regional art instructors and the Zanesville branch of the American Association of University Women to celebrate the artistic achievement of area students.

“We put together and exhibit the work and recognize the achievements of kindergartners through high school students. We ask that their act educators select a series of works that really represents the best work that they do or have done over the year. Those teachers put together a selection and bring it to the museum, we exhibit it and display it and then provide awards for all of the students,” said Laine Snyder, Executive Director of Zanesville Museum of Art.

This year the museum tried something new by inviting Mayor Jeff Tilton out to present awards to the 20-16 Avant Garde Winners.

“Zanesville is going through such an exciting time in the arts and to have the mayor here it really helps to focus the kids attention and show that there’s so much recognition for the really hard work that they do within the arts,” said Snyder.

Snyder said next year they are introducing a new teacher recognition award for one area teacher for their constant dedication in bringing up the next creative generation in Muskingum County.
