ZANESVILLE, OH – Several organizations with over 150 volunteers came together today to build playhouses for area children.

The 5th annual Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio’s Project Playhouse got underway today at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.

Missy Best, the Director of Community Engagement for Habitat, says about 13 playhouses were under construction to later be gifted to local children.

“It’s an event where we are raising money for Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio to build our homes here in Muskingum County.” Best said. “So we’re building small homes so then we can build big homes and change lives and communities right here in Zanesville.”

Best says the community truly does come together for this event, from the shingles for the playhouses being donated as well as lunch being donated for all the volunteers that worked hard.

Bobbi Lepi, the Presenting Sponsor of Project Playhouse, says this is now the 5th playhouse they’ve built for a family here in the community they’re thrilled to be a part of this project every year.

“Our company culture is that we love to be involved in community events.” Lepi said. “Of course Habitat is one of our favorites because it’s about housing, not only just the little houses but seeing the people get into the homes that maybe otherwise wouldn’t and Habitat helps facilitate that, so it’s a pretty great feeling for us.”

The new “home owners” received their freshly built digs earlier this afternoon.
