Rebecca Cooper

Rebecca Jane Cooper, 84, of Zanesville, died on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at home. She was born April 20, 1941, in Zanesville, a daughter of the late Elston H. and Eileen (Wharton) Layne. Rebecca was a member of the First Christian Church and worked as the director of the Muskingum County Home and the Clerk of Muskingum County Commissioners office and for National City Bank for over 20 years. Rebecca was an avid Ohio State Buckeye’s fan, she held season tickets and loved to listen to The Ohio State Marching Band.
She is survived by her husband, of sixty-four years, William Lawrence Cooper, whom she married July 22, 1961; two children, William Lawrence Cooper II and Molly Jane (Robert) Scherf; grandchildren, Dirk A. Pennell, Michael R. Pennell; Mackenzie W. Cooper, Mary K Cooper, Emma J Scherf, William J. Scherf, Elizabeth A. Vicenie; and two step grandchildren, Valerie Carson and William Carson Jr.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a daughter Beth Anne Cooper.
Friends and family may call from 10:00 A.M. until time of service starting at 11:00 A.M on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the First Christian Church 3000 Dresden Road Zanesville, OH with Rev.
