Michael Willett Honored through Military Salute

ZANESVILLE, OH – WHIZ continues to honor those who served on this Veterans day.
Michael Willett received a flag from the Annin Flag Company in Coshocton for his service in the Navy from 1987 until 1991.
He says he served during the First Gulf War, a tour in the Mediterranean, as well as some operation missions in Guantanamo Bay.
Willett says he had many influential role models as he was growing up and that made him want to serve his country.
“My father served, 3 of my brothers served, my uncle served, most of us have served in the Navy.” Willett said. “My dad and oldest brother were the only two ‘traitors’, they served in the Army. ”
Willett says his wife Jessica is the one who submitted him for this honor.
He says this is a special way to honor those that served and are continuing to serve their country.
“It’s an absolute honor, it’s an absolute honor to be recognized, especially in the town you live in.” Willett said. “A little bit, a lot of pride that goes along with that.”
Willett’s flag was sponsored by Cedar Ridge Behavioral Health but was presented by WHIZ’s Shelia Blake.
