Jaycees prepare for annual C-Day donation pickup

Jaycees C-Day 2023

ZANESVILLE, OH- The Zanesville Jaycees are preparing for one of their longest running community traditions, C-Day, an annual event focused on collecting food, clothing, and household items for families in need. This year’s event will take place Saturday, November 22, from 9 a.m. to noon, and organizers say getting involved is simple.

Volunteers will spend the morning traveling across Zanesville picking up donated items directly from porches and doorsteps. Residents can call the Jaycees clubhouse, provide their name, phone number, address, and list what they would like collected. If no one answers prior to the event, callers can leave a voicemail, and a crew will still arrive on C-Day.

“C-Day is one of our longest traditions, as far as we know it started back in the 40s around, 49, what we do is, you call our clubhouse, and then we drive around and pick up non-perishable food items, toys, gently used clothing, we prefer that you don’t give us any furniture or TVs, with furniture we have some logistical issues, and then TVs, they break,” said Zanesville Jaycees Secretary, Lane Dailey.

After donations are collected, the Jaycees make sure each item goes to a local organization that can use it. Food helps stock shelves for the holidays, while toys and clothing are shared with families who could use extra support this time of year.

“The importance of the C-Day to us is that we get to kick off the Christmas season with donations, all the nonperishable food items will go to Salvation Army, and then all of the toys and clothing and any other household items will end up going to East Side Ministries,” said Dailey.

C-Day runs from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, November 22. For more information, visit ZanesvilleJaycees.org.
