Michael “Mike” John Chelekis, 90, of Pleasant City, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 1, 2025.

He was born March 18, 1935, in Zoupena, Greece, son of the late John Chelekis and Andonia (Laskaris) Chelekis. At just 12 years old, Mike made the life-changing journey from Zoupena to the United States, arriving at Ellis Island in 1947 hand-in hand with his young sister, Matoula. The siblings eventually settled in Cambridge with family, where Mike later graduated from Cambridge High School.

After high school, Mike proudly served in the United States Army from 1956-1959.

Mike met and married Eva Sue Davis, February 26,1966 and together they built a life rooted in hard work, love, and community in Pleasant City. They managed the L&K restaurant before owning and operating the City Restaurant in Byesville where they worked side by side for many years along with their three children. Mike spent his entire career in the food service industry, later cooking breakfast at the Seneca Lake Marina before retiring from the Senior Center in Senecaville.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to those who supported and cared for Mike in recent years: Tommy Regan and family, Tami Kotoff and Jeff, Clarabelle Secrest, Pat Norman, Mike and Nikki Hewison, Karen Sherman, and Iona Rominger.

The family also extends a deeply sincere acknowledgement, gratitude, and love to his longtime, cherished companion, Karen Hively for her unwavering support and devotion. Karen’s presence allowed Mike to remain in the comfort of his home and her presence brought him peace, steadfast companionship, and immeasurable care throughout the years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Sue (Davis) Chelekis, who passed away August 18, 1987. He was also preceded in death by siblings Georgia, Petro, and Maria.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Eric (& Monica) Chelekis of Atlanta; his two daughters, Annette (& Kas) Carroll of New Albany and Stephanie (& Jamie) Kline of Plain City; his companion Karen Hively; his sister, Matoula (& Dick) Avdul of Indiana; three grandchildren, Bryce (& Allison) Carroll, Shelby (& Ben) Russell, and Jag Chelekis; Brother-in-law, Bill (Connie) Davis of Pleasant City, along with several nieces and nephews.

Main Street will never be quite the same without Mike waving from his front porch. Per Mike’s wishes, no calling hours will be observed, and no services will be held at this time.

And in the spirit of Mike’s familiar farewell-one he shared with everyone he cared about-we part with his favorite words; “Take it easy”
