Putnam Businessman Dies

A well known area business man has died. Taylor Powell – the longtime owner of Powell’s Market in Putnam has died at the age of 94. Powell started in 1945 opening a Texaco filling station with his brother-in-law on the corner of Harrison Street and Putnam Avenue. He later opened a grocery story behind in a small room before he bought out his brother-in-law and enlarged the store into Powell’s Market. He also served in the Merchant Marines during World War II in the Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean Theaters. Calling hours are on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and one hour before the funeral service Friday at 11:00 am at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home. Powell with be buried at Zanesville Memorial Park with full Military honors.
