Mercedes Jane Carr

Mercedes Jane Carr, affectionately known as Jane, died in the afternoon hours of December 11, 2025, at the age of 88.
Jane was born one of three children to the late, Donald and Mercedes (James) Gardner on July 30, 1937, in Danville, NY.
Jane grew up in Dagus Mines, PA, where she met her husband, Tom, before later moving to Brockway, PA, where they would raise their family. After raising their family, life brought her and her husband to Zanesville, OH. A proud graduate of Dubois Business College, Jane began her career at Bell Telephone as an operator. She later dedicated herself to a flourishing career in retail, working for notable employers including JCPenney for 10 years and Sears for 20 years, Sam’s Club and TJ Maxx. Her remarkable work ethic kept her dedicated until her retirement at the age of 87. Just recently, she shared her hopes of returning to work, a testament to her desire to keep herself busy.
Jane was not only a devoted professional but also an artist at heart. She loved painting ceramics and found joy in reading and writing. Her passion for life extended to her love of sports; she was an extreme fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Penn State Nittany Lions, often cheering for her teams with great enthusiasm. She was the pillar of her family, known for her unwavering support and always taking care of those she loved.
Jane is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Theodore Carr; her children, Bradley (Laura) Carr, and Bryan (Shona) Carr; her cherished grandchildren, Ciara Acton, Janelle Carr, Christopher Carr, Jaclyn Carr, Clay Williams, and Reese Williams; her brother, Jim Gardner; her brother-in-law, Blaine (Shelley) Carr; her two great grandchildren and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jane is preceded in death by her son, Thomas Randall Carr; her brother, Donald Gardner; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Bub” Gardner; her brothers-in-law, Dale Carr and Clifford Carr as well as her aunt, Alberta James and her uncle, Norman Gardner.
The family has chosen to mourn privately, Jane will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at Zanesville Memorial Park, where Jane and her son, Randy will be interred. Goebel Funeral Home is caring for the Carr family.
