Dresden Cub Scouts hold 46th Annual derby

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â Dresden Cub Scouts got competitive with four-wheels.
Cub Scout Pack 121 of Dresden held their 46th Annual Pinewood Derby Sunday afternoon at the IBEW Hall.
Dan Riley, Derby Race Chairman, said the boys were given a kit with materials to build with, but then are able to bring their own creativity.
“They are allowed to design it however they choose with their adult partner. They’re given a set of rules that it needs to go by, and then once they get the cars built we bring them down and have a race to determine which ones are the fastest and the best,” said Riley.
There were roughly 20 participants, varying from first through fifth grade. The track ran 4 cars at a time and each car raced 25 times total.
Riley said the Cub Scouts look forward to it year round.
“It’s the fun event of the year for Cub Scouts. Our scouts really enjoy coming out and doing this every year, it’s a lot of fun,” said Riley.
The scoring was computer controlled full equipped with an electronic gate, and projector screen for viewers to watch.
“They love the action, [and] it gets them a chance to be with their family members and they’re fellow scouts,” said Riley.
The winner received a trophy in addition to bragging rights.
