“It’s absolutely amazing, I love giving away money to students who have really put in the time and the work,” said Jackson. “Not only in the classroom, but also outside the classroom.”

“I’m very happy that I was chosen out of this wonderful group of people and I’m very happy to be here,” Van Horn said.”

This year first responders, law enforcement were honored and Jackson said they try to highlight those in the community who go unnoticed and bring to the forefront to celebrate.

“We have to celebrate our first responders,” said Jackson. “They’re first on the scene when things go awry, when we need their help and just to know that we support them. As well as they also support our scholarships and committees. They’ve been here without even them being recognized throughout the years. So it’s just great to honor them and say ‘thank you for your service.”

Lieutenant Matt Boyd, Chief Tony Coury, Chief Eric Finley, and Sheriff Matt Lutz represented the local law enforcement and each representative said the awards go out to their men and women suiting up every day to serve the community.
