Local government spending to become more transparent

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â A new state program will make public access to local government spending much easier.
Representatives of the Ohio Treasurer’s Office will announce on Monday at Zanesville City Council the signing of the city to the OhioCheckbook.com program.
The interactive website shows taxpayers how their tax dollars are being spent.
“Folks need to know where their tax money is going,” said Joey Osborn, Zanesville city council member at-large.
Osborn said it holds the administration and city council accountable.
“In December of 2016, 1,000 entities from the state have officially signed on so its sort of exponentially growing and it was time that Zanesville signed on,” said Osborn.
Osborn said that a lot of people don’t understand where their tax money goes so this is a good educational tool. And for those familiar with the process and budget, this helps them to keep abreast of where their money is going.
