Ralph Sherlock

Ralph Michael “Mike” Sherlock passed away January 22, 2026 in New Lexington, OH. The only child of Ralph and Mamie Sherlock, he was born June 8, 1947 in Zanesville, OH. Mike was raised in Crooksville and graduated from Crooksville High School in 1965 where he met the love of his life, Carla Shoemaker. He received his Bachelors degree from Ohio University and a Masters of Education degree from Xavier University.

Mike lived a life dedicated to his faith, family, and community. A devout member of St. Rose Catholic Church, he served as a lay minister and active parishioner. He spent his professional career serving the youth of Perry County as a teacher and principal of Junction City Elementary. His interactions with students and staff have ensured that his legacy of love, patience, and kindness will continue to impact this community for generations to come. In addition to being an educator, Mike was actively involved in service and civic organizations in Perry County. He was a lifelong member of the Elks and served in varying capacities with Children’s Services, Perco, and the American Heart Association.

Mike is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carla Shoemaker Sherlock of New Lexington, son Tony (Jean) and grandson, Anthony Michael all of Okeechobee, Florida; brother-in-law, Mark Shoemaker, cousins Emma Jean and Larry Cook (Crooksville), and nephews, Ian, Javid, Eli, and Carlin Shoemaker.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in New Lexington with internment immediately following at New Lexington Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 1:00 at the Elks Lodge in New Lexington. Refreshments will be served.
