2nd Annual Strikeout for Breast Cancer

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- It may not be breast cancer awareness month anymore, but one local group is making sure that awareness efforts remain strong.
The 2nd Annual ‘Strikeout for Breast Cancer’ bowling event is set to take place Saturday, February 4th at Sunrise Strikes bowling alley.
Tammy Ansberry-Hildenbrand, Vice President of Zanesville USBC WBA and Chairperson for ‘Strikeout for Breast Cancer,’ said the event is aimed at raising awareness.
“This event has grown so much in just a year and that’s what our hope is; to get more people involved in this fight that we’re doing here in our community. It’s on the national level, it’s on the state level, but let’s do it here on our community level,” said Tammy.
All the proceeds from the event go towards the Genesis Cancer Center for local breast cancer patients. The funds are designed for the items that insurance doesn’t cover.
“There are items that you do need to feel pretty again and normal,” said Tammy.
Tammy has a personal connection to the event. She is coming up on her 2-year anniversary as a breast cancer survivor. In September 2014 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double-mastectomy in October 2014.
“Breast cancer didn’t just affect me, it affected my husband, my son, my daughter, my family, my friends, so my way of getting through all this and it making sense to me is to help others get through it,” said Tammy.
The bowling tournament starts at 12 p.m. at Sunrise Strikes at 1940 E. Pike. There will also be raffles, a photobooth and a 50/50 drawing.
