Ann King Howell, 73, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home on February 8, 2026, surrounded by her husband and daughters.

Ann was born in Zanesville, Ohio, to Joseph and Rita Pfeifer. She grew up in a close-knit family and attended St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School and Bishop Rosecrans High School, where she formed friendships that lasted her entire life.

Ann spent more than 25 years with First National Bank advancing to the Vice President of Commercial and Mortgage Loan operations, later working for Rankin and Rankin Insurance before retiring. She took great pride in helping and supporting others.

Ann gave generously of her time and talents to the community. Over the years, she served as president of the St. Thomas Aquinas school board and was a member of the parish council. She also volunteered on the board of the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation and served on the board at Green Valley Golf Course.

Above all, Ann loved being with her family and close friends. She especially cherished traveling with her husband, John, and spending time at family gatherings where her quick, witty humor and charm are unforgettable.

Surviving are her husband, John Howell; daughters Amy (David) Wren and Erin (Dan) Straine; five beautiful grandchildren Charlie, Cora, Ava, Emma and George; sisters Martha (Bob) Glass and Christy (Dante) Benincasa; brother Charles “Chuck” (Rosemary) Pfeifer; sister-in-law Kathleen Ormond; and many dear nieces and nephews, including Lisa Johnson and Carrie Lyall, who lovingly helped care for her later in life. And last but not least their beloved dog, Bertie.

The family would like to thank Shriver’s Hospice and the Independent Care givers for the wonderful care they provided at the end of her life.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Rita and Joseph Pfeifer, and by her parents-in-law, Joseph and Roberta Howell and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Rebecca and Micheal Mahle.
