Muskingum University Announces Appointment of its 22nd President

NEW CONCORD, Ohio-Muskingum University has appointed Dr. Flavius Lilly as its 22nd president, effective July 1, 2026, following a comprehensive national search.

Dr. Lilly currently serves as Provost at McDaniel College where he has provided strategic leadership in advancing academic excellence, strengthening student success initiatives, and fostering innovation across the institution.

Throughout the search process, the Board of Trustees sought a collaborative and forward-looking leader who could build on Muskingum’s strong foundation while guiding the University into its next chapter of growth and impact. Dr. Lilly was selected for a proven ability to strengthen academic programs, support experiential and interdisciplinary learning, advance access and inclusion, and lead with clarity and integrity in a rapidly evolving higher education landscape.

In accepting the appointment, Dr. Lilly expressed enthusiasm for joining the Muskingum community.

Dr. Lilly will succeed President Susan Hasseler, who will retire in June 2026 after ten years of leadership. During her presidency, Muskingum strengthened its strategic direction, expanded academic programs, enhanced campus facilities, and reinforced its student-centered mission. The Board of Trustees expressed deep appreciation for her dedicated service and lasting contributions to the University.
