ZANESVILLE, Ohio — The Zanesville and Muskingum County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau announced the release of their new 2017 Visitors Guide as of March 1st.

110,000 new guides will be distributed throughout the year to travelers, group tour planners, meeting planners, and local community members themselves. The purpose of the visitor’s guide is to promote leisure activities such restaurants, shopping, parks and recreation, nightlife, and more in Zanesville, as well as the surrounding villages of Adamsville, Dresden, and New Concord.

The 2017 guide will actually have a new section dedicated specifically to those three Muskingum County Villages as well. In the past, they had used separate brochures for the surrounding villages, however this year they felt it would be more effective and more encompassing to promote the great attractions and unique fun things to do in those areas within the visitor’s guide.

“This is our number one marketing piece to promote Muskingum County as a destination for families, for golfers, for people wanting to explore the outdoors, for women’s getaways. There’s all kinds of great reasons to come to Zanesville and Muskingum County, and it’s all right here in this Visitor’s Guide,” said Vice President of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce Kelly Ashby. The guide will not only be distributed locally and in the state of Ohio, but it will also be passed out at trade shows all around Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Michigan, and other surrounding states.

Ashby adds that the economic impact felt in the community illustrates the value of their visitor guide and other marketing strategies.

“It is over $200 million economic impact on Muskingum County, so that is why we go to these trade shows and put marketing materials together, and we have a visitor information area at the Welcome Center. So it’s why we do all these things because it does have a huge economic impact on our county,” Ashby explained.

The process for the 2017 Visitor’s Guide began almost immediately after the 2016 version was released. Ashby’s office begins making calls to determine what new businesses will be popping up, different attractions around the city,  changes in hours, and starts the design process for the upcoming version. Though Ashby says that it is usually sometime in the fall when they really start to hammer out the details.

Visitors and community members can obtain a copy of the new visitors guide in person at the Welcome Center, online at visitzanesville.com, or request a copy be mailed to them by calling the Welcome Center at (740)455-8282.
