Mary Joseph-Coates

Mary Margaret Joseph-Coates, 88, of Zanesville, went to be with her Lord, peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on February 25, 2026, at her residence.
She was born on October 7, 1937, in Zanesville, Ohio, daughter of the late Fred Joseph and Margaret (Durant) Joseph. Mary was a member of the American Legion of Zanesville and retired from Essex Wire Corp. after 32 years. She enjoyed birdwatching, working on puzzles, and taking trips to Wheeling. Mary was a great cook and enjoyed spoiling the family with her specialty mac n cheese. Above all, Mary loved family outings, reunions, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events,
Mary is survived by her children: Veronica Harper, Harry “Mickey” (Julie) Harper, Barbie (Randy) Tyson, Brent (Lisa) Harper, Brenda (Patrick) Mason, Rosanne (Mike) Kinder, Heather Osborne, Dorothy Coates, Jeanie “Theresa” (Steve Tetak) Coates, Carl (Frankie) Coates, Robin (Bill) Meredith; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Trudi Joseph; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 15 years, Royce A. Coates; an infant son; son, Royce Coates Jr.; daughter, Sherry Coates; brothers, Louis Joseph, Carl Joseph, Paul Joseph, Raymond Mehling, Donald Mehling; sister, Clarice Ann Joseph; and grandsons, Cory Harper and Jakob Driggs.
Calling hours will be held on Friday February 27, 2026, from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home, where services will be held at 1:00 PM with Rev. Darren Tolbert officiating. Burial will conclude services at Mt. Olive Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Genesis Hospice in honor of Mary.
