County commissioners announce a contest to design the next county flag

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Commissioners are calling on county residents to help create the new Muskingum County flag.
According to Muskingum County Commissioner Melissa Bell, the commissioners began the contest after county resident Camren Zimmerman proposed his idea for a new flag in January. Now the commissioners are hoping to showcase a new flag as part of the America 250 celebrations.
“We really want people to use their imagination and try to think about what most accurately reflects the heritage and history of Muskingum County. We want very simple designs. We’ve asked for two-to-four colors and it must be things that represent Muskingum County well,” Bell said.
The submission deadline for flag designs is May 1, with hopes for a potential winner being announced and presented on flag day.
“This is a great way for us to engage the community and the county in helping us to make some choices about what’s going to best represent Muskingum County. So, we’re excited to see how many different ideas and submissions we get for this project,” Bell said.
You can submit your flag design by emailing it to Bell’s email address on your screen or by mailing a physical printout to the commissioner’s office at 401 Main Street. The current county flag, pictured above, has been the official flag since 2002.
