The Trials and Tribulations of Zanesville Basketball

Zanesville Basketball

9 seniors and 3 juniors are the make up of the Zanesville Blue Devils basketball team. The Blue Devils  finished the regular season above .500 for the first time since 2017, after starting the season with a rough loss to Cambridge the team entered the locker in silence. From that point the team was at a crossroads, knowing how past seasons have gone for the program coach Cedric Harris and his squad decided to make a change.

After brutal practices and conversations coach Harris found the players that were committed to him and his culture. Zanesville would then win 7 of their next 10 games the best stretch for Harris in his tenure, but it still came with back lash. Although the team was on the precipice of an accomplishment none of the players had been apart of the noise around them started to creep in. The Blue Devils would follow up that great start with their worst stretch of the season losing 4 of their next 5 and yet again the team had another tough decision to make.

With only 6 more games to play in the month of February  the 9 seniors on the team put their heads down to try and build a foundation that future classes could build on even if it meant that the one’s they thought were their biggest supporters turned on them. Zanesville turned another corner winning their first 2 games in the month of February putting them at 10 victories on the season and they kept it going finishing with a 2 game winning streak to close out the season.

They would then take all the trials and tribulations they went through this season into the dog house in Dresden, Ohio against Tri-Valley where they took down one of the top competitors in the MVL 55-47 giving them their first win over the Scotties since 2013.
