ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Every two years, 250 local veterans are honored by having their image attached to city light poles.

Currently, the Veterans Appreciation Foundation is accepting applications from the public to display their family’s service members on freshly made banners created by Kessler Sign Company, which will be displayed later this spring in the City of Zanesville.

“We try to get people who have never had one before,” Veterans Appreciation Foundation President Wayne Clark said. “We have 75 spots left. First come first served, when those are gone they’re gone. The registration packets, they’re very simple to fill out. It’s not a complicated thing… We just need a picture of that veteran, and… we have $70 dollars in each. We ask for $70 dollars and that’s all it takes.”

Application packets can be found at VFW Post 1058, American Legion Post 29, the Muskingum County Visitors Center, Muddy Miser’s and the Green Valley Golf Course.

“So people, if they really want one, don’t wait,” Clark said. “Go get the packet, get it filled in and get it returned to right where you picked it up and get it done because it’ll go fast now. It’ll go very fast. There is no more than 250. So if somebody… it goes beyond that, we’ll return their money. But it’s wide open now for anyone to do repeats.”

During the next couple of months, the City of Zanesville will be removing the existing banners, which will be offered to the family members of the honored veterans, and the new banners will be installed for the next two years.
