March marks National Nutrition Month

Zanesville, Ohio- This month marks the celebration of National Nutrition Month.

The Dietitian of WIC Programs in Zanesville, Claire Gately, discusses every year there is a different theme and this years theme is a small step in eating healthier.

“This year the theme is put your best fork forward. What that basically means is if you make small changes one forkful at a time it adds up to making a big difference towards making you be healthy.”

Gately explains anyone wanting to eat healthy should follow the plate method.

“So half of your plate should be fruit and vegetables or all vegetables that way you get a little portion maybe a quarter of your plate of your protein source which would be your meat or your beans or your nuts and then another quarter of your plate being your grain your bread or your pasta.”

Gately notes eating healthy can help prevent heart problems, diabetes, and obesity.
