Animals Encounter Muskingum University

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Orbit Media completed “WMCO Weekend” this afternoon with the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium’s popular “Animal Encounters” event.
WMCO is the Muskingum University campus radio station dedicated to local news to support the public and give back to the community.
“We’ve been live for 56 years and what we do is part of the reason why we do ‘WMCO Weekend’– it’s public service. We are one of the stations in the area that gives you the local news. So we cover news, we cover the local sporting events; all Muskingum University sports as well as John Glenn High School Football. We do all those kinds of things and it’s all meant to inform the public because that’s what radio, honestly, is all about,” said Marty Kurtz, Program Director for WMCO.
This is the 10th Annual WMCO Weekend and all proceeds go to support the Southeast Ohio American Red Cross, the Muskingum County Animal Shelter and Operation Feed. Since 2008, WMCO Weekend has raised $3,600 and 2,400 lbs. of food for their charities.
“WMCO Weekend started 10 years ago as a one-time initiative, and we thought a cool way to get campus and community together for some events to raise some awareness for our station and also give back to charity. And that one-year event has now turned into a 10-year event. This is actually the fourth time the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is with us, and again, that started as a one-time event, and it was so successful we decided to bring it back every two years,” added Lisa Marshall, Station Manager for WMCO.
