Mid-East hosts 9th Annual Employability Expo

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Local students learned how to make themselves employable on Tuesday.
The Mid-East Career and Technology Centers Zanesville Campus had their 9th Annual Employability Expo.
Shannon Kenily, Coordinator of Business Partnership and Placement, said he expo mainly served the junior class of students and featured a number of local businesses.
“We’ve had about 80 employers today speaking with our students in our labs regarding what their businesses are,” said Kenily.
She said the businesses explained what is available in the community and how those businesses contribute. They also talked about interview soft skills; the interpersonal attributes that make a huge impression such as what is appropriate to wear and timeliness.
“Our students are our future workforce and it’s really important for our students to know what is available in our local community and what it has to offer,” said Kenily.
Each classroom, or lab, featured their own panel of professionals ranging from healthcare to digital fields, covering 20 of the different trades that they have specialty programs for.
“We just feel as a career technical school that we need to prepare these students for the work force. We have wonderful instructors on our campuses and [we are] just preparing these students for their career fields and just to be ready for the world of work in the future,” said Kenily.
Muskingum County Ohio Means Jobs also spoke to all the students about how they can better prepare themselves for entering the workforce upon graduation.
