Springfest brings the campus together at OUZ and Zane State

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – As the college semester is approaching its end, Ohio University Zanesville and Zane State College held their annual Springfest on Wednesday.

Springfest offers campus organizations and potential employers a chance to connect with students on the quad. For Summer Jacobs, a career coordinator with OUZ, the event is also a chance for students to unwind with some fun activities and free food before the end of the semester.

“We just want to have the students a time to relax and you know their finals are getting ready to come up and you know this just gets them in the feel of summertime and you know just wanting to socialize. You know, and communicate and just relax for once,” Jacobs said.

Several employers from the community were in attendance at Springfest, including The Wilds, Genesis Healthcare System, The Ridge Corporation, and WHIZ/Marquee Broadcasting Ohio. Jacobs says this offers students a chance to explore career options they may not have explored before.

“Whenever you’re in college, some people really do not have any idea of what they would like to do, okay. And, I was one of those people,” Jacobs said. “They will decide, ‘hey, I do not want to be a part of this major anymore. I really, really connected with this specific person at this career fair and you know I really, really want to learn more about that.’ And then, they can go job shadow or they can go, you know, have an internship there.”

Students were offered free coffee from Grace and Grounds Coffee and were encouraged to explore programs and clubs on campus. OUZ and Zane State College will host a similar event called Fallfest in the fall semester.
