Donald Mercer

Donald “Dozer” Mercer Sr., 73, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on April 17, 2026, at Adams Lane Care Center.
He was born on September 18, 1952, in Zanesville, son of the late Robert Mercer and Esther (McGrath) Mercer. Don was a 1971 graduate of Zanesville High School and Mid East Vocational. He was a member of the First Church of God, American Legion Post 29, and the Southeastern Ohio Bikers. Don worked at Essex Wire on the hill for 20 plus years. He later worked in HVAC and at the American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and loved ones.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sue Mercer; 2 children: Donald (Carolea) Mercer Jr. and Kimberly (Will) Bailey; 4 grandchildren: Cameron (Brittney) Bailey, Tyler Bailey, Lexi (Austin) Lentz, Kylie (Tag) Tucker; 4 great grandchildren: Paisley, Hayden, Aleah, Teddy; 2 siblings: Robert (Dorothy) Mercer Jr. and Pam (Roy) Montgomery; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Martin “Marty” Mercer Sr.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday April 22, 2026, from 12:00 AM -2:00 PM and 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, where services will be held at 6:00 PM with Pastor Jim Childers. Full military honors will be presented by The United States Marines in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058. Per Don’s wishes, a dignified cremation has been entrusted to DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home.
