ZANESVILLE, OH – National Cancer Survivors Day is coming up and Genesis Healthcare System is getting ready to celebrate those who are battling with this disease.

On June 7th from 4 to 6PM at the Genesis Cancer Care Center will be the annual Celebrate Life event.

Pebbles Kieber, the Director of Cancer Services, says the theme is back to the 80’s, so grab the neon, the leg warmers, and get ready for a fun time.

“Any cancer survivor, bring your whole family, it’s a great family time.” Kieber said. “There’s going to be free food, prizes, there will be a band, it’s a really fun time. Snowcones, popcorn, all the stuff. Then this year, especially new, is a new 5K the same day, that morning though. There’s also a one mile memory walk as well, so we can celebrate all of our cancer survivors all day long which is super exciting.”

Registration is required for the 5K and 1 Mile memory walk and Kieber says the funds raised from that event will go back to the Genesis Cancer Center.

These funds will help to pay for things like wigs, medications, and even prosthetics for patients.

Kieber says she’s excited to add to the great history this event has created for the community and their families.

“I didn’t realize how ingrained this was into the community until I became the director of Cancer Services.” Kieber said. “I found this fantastic cache of historical photos and things from the 80’s when they had Celebrate Life down at the Lorena Sternwheeler and from when they had it at Zane’s Landing and all of that stuff, it was just, it gave me a moment of understanding and like we want to continue this legacy and we want this to continue in the community.”
