David Applegate

David Edgar Applegate Sr., 87, of Cambridge passed away peacefully at his family’s home on May 6, 2026.
He was born in Niagara Falls, New York on May 15, 1938, the son of Edgar A. Applegate and Verna (Downs) Applegate.
Dave was a 1956 graduate of Cambridge High School, then served in U.S. Air Force before he put in his 30 years and retired from Shield Alloy. Dave was a longtime member of the Cambridge Elks Lodge and enjoyed many years of playing in the Cambridge Men’s softball league and fishing. He was also a devoted fan of OSU, the Cleveland Browns, the Cincinnati Reds and NASCAR driver Ryan Blainey.
Dave is survived by 3 sons and 4 daughters in law, Mitchell Lee (Julie) Applegate of FL, Christy (the late Robert K.) Applegate of Cambridge, Ken (Mary) Applegate of Cambridge, and David (Darlene) Applegate Jr of Kentucky. He is also survived by his friend and mother of his children, Dreama (the late Thomas A.) Mosher, his grandchildren, Alyssa (Josh) Woodard, Aarika (Brad) Barclay, Cassie Springer, Tracey (Sholem) Futran, Andy, Ben, Vince, Matthew Applegate and 5 great grandchildren. Dave loved and was loved by his family.
In addition to his parents, Dave is preceded in death by his son, Robert K. Applegate and his sister June Nicholas.
Per Dave’s wishes, no services will be held at this time.
His family would also like to express heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Guernsey.
