The Cork and Quill opens in New Concord offering wine, books, and a relaxing space

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – In 2022, the village of New Concord voted to allow the sale of wine, mixed drinks, beer and liquor by the glass. 4 years later, a new wine bar and bookstore has opened its doors.

Cork and Quill celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning, attended by members of the New Concord Village Council and Mayor Robert Dickson. The books on sale are primarily in the romance genre, but you are more than welcome to bring in your own to read with your wine, bourbon, or wine slushies. According to Stephanie Swingle, the owner of the Cork and Quill, you can expect the flavor of slushies to be on a regular rotation.

“We are going to change them every day. We are still testing out to see which ones are going to be the most popular. You know we keep a list and we keep all the feedback so that’ll be changing out daily,” Swingle said.

The wine bar and bookstore also offers charcuterie and small plate dishes to snack on. The cozy establishment also has chessboards to challenge your friends. Swingle says that bringing the idea to New Concord was no small feat, but hopes that she can recreate the experiences of similar concepts she has seen on the road.

“I’ve traveled a lot and I’ve seen a lot of these concepts throughout my travels and every time I see them, I make sure I stop, and so I’m hoping that’s what happens here,” Swingle said. “It took a lot of time, a lot of work, a lot of help from my support system. ”

The Cork and Quill will be open, Wednesdays through Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can learn more about the business by visiting their Facebook page.
