Veteran’s Weekend concludes on the links

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Veteran’s Weekend concluded Sunday afternoon a golf outing at Green Valley Golf Course in Zanesville.
Local veterans were honored with a series of events all weekend including a Flags of Honor Ceremony on Friday at Zanesville High School, and a free breakfast on the river on Saturday at Terry’s Tavern. All funds raised go to the support of local veterans and their families.
“The money goes in different directions. You know, the Wounded Warriors was one of the things initially that they started doing things for. The Honor Flight, anybody, like the meals with the breakfast, the money is meant and earmarked for money to help the veterans that live in Muskingum County,” explained Phil Harris, a volunteer for the Veteran’s Foundation Muskingum County.
Sunday’s outing consisted of 144 members, 36 teams in total. Course General Manager Steve Galloway said that while it’s only the third year for this outing, local support continues to grow each year and he’s honored to be able to support the veterans at their course.
“When we started this with Tim and Wayne, and everybody– it’s really an honor and a privilege to support the veterans and be part of this organization and this foundation, and it’s just a wonderful cause,” Galloway said.
The foundation sold-out 1,000 tickets being sold to auction off a 2016 Harley Davidson Roadster provided by Fink’s Harley Davidson. The course is also selling bricks for their Memorial Wall. Bricks are $50 and the purchaser can have the name of any local veteran, alive or deceased, put on the brick. For more information you can contact the course at (740)452-7105.
