Gertrud Cooper

Cooper

Gertrud “Bobbie” Cooper, 94, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026 at Altercare of Zanesville. Born on April 17, 1932 in Straubing, Germany, she was the beloved daughter of Johann and Anna (Loibl) Hauber.
Bobbie was a woman of remarkable strength, talent, and grace whose life reflected resilience, devotion, and deep appreciation for the blessings she had been given. A gifted seamstress since the young age of 14, she dedicated herself to her craft with extraordinary skill and pride. Her talent with a needle and thread was admired by all who knew her, and one of her greatest joys was creating beautiful clothing for those she loved, including a cherished three-piece suit she lovingly made for her son to wear to a wedding. She helped run the Dillon Falls Store with her husband, Joseph, from 1972 to 1976.
Beyond her work, Bobbie found happiness in knitting and sewing, hobbies that reflected both her creativity and caring nature. She also possessed a love for dogs and treasured the companionship they brought into her life. An accomplished ice skater in her younger years, she carried a spirit of elegance and determination throughout her life.
Having lived through the hardships of World War II, Bobbie held a lifelong gratitude and admiration for veterans, whom she often credited for giving her freedom in 1945. Her appreciation for those who served was heartfelt and unwavering, and she carried that thankfulness with her every day.
Above all, Bobbie loved her family deeply. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose kindness, warmth, and quiet strength will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her loving son, Michael Cooper; her cherished granddaughter, Sarah; her dear best friend, Jean Moore; Jean’s daughter, Kelly Moore; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will continue to hold her memory close to their hearts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph W. Cooper, whom she married in Germany in 1957; and by her brother, Hans Hauber.
