Margaret Jean Hemphill-Wysong, 75, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the Morrison House. She was born on March 8, 1951, in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of the late William and Margaret Hemphill. Margaret was a woman of intelligence, determination, compassion, and service. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri, graduating Cum Laude in 1973. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to helping others and embraced a variety of professional opportunities. She worked with mentally disabled adults in Nebraska and Idaho and served in retail management positions with Payless Shoe Source in Iowa and Kansas, The Avenue in Columbus, Ohio, and This End Up Furniture in California. In 1991, Margaret began her career with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) in Columbus, Ohio, where she faithfully served for twenty-five years before retiring.

Community involvement was an important part of Margaret’s life. She volunteered for many years with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Columbus Affiliate and the American Cancer Society in Central Ohio. Following retirement, she became actively involved in the Zanesville arts community, serving on the Advisory Board of the McIntire Terrace Historic District and the Renner Theater Board. Margaret deeply loved gardening, remodeling her home, reading, and spending time in the theater community she cherished. She was known for her caring nature, often serving as a “mother hen” to friends and neighbors alike.

Margaret is survived by her devoted husband, Barth Wysong; her step-son, Brandon (Lauren) Wysong; two cherished grandchildren; her brothers, Robert Hemphill of Des Moines, Iowa, Jim Hemphill of Dallas, Texas, and John Hemphill of Galloway, Ohio; two beloved sisters-in-law, Linda and Judith; and a multitude of loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret Hemphill, her brothers Bill and Tom Hemphill, and her sister, Ruth Hemphill.

A cremation will take place under the direction of BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, AT OUR LOCALLY OWNED AND OPERATED CREMATORY.

Services for Margaret will be held at the Renner Theater, 148 N 7th St, Zanesville, OH 43701 on Sunday June 28, 2026 at 2PM, friends may gather on hour earlier.

In lieu of flowers, Margaret requested that memorial contributions be made to the Renner Theater, 148 North 7th Street, Zanesville, OH 43701, the Zanesville Community Theatre, 940 Findley Avenue, Zanesville, OH 43701, or the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 676910, Dallas, TX 75267-6910.

In addition to her many loved ones, Margaret leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, generosity, and dedication to her family, friends, and community. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
