Dr. April Leigh Cunion, age 46, of Kent, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 19, 2026. She was born on February 20, 1980 to David and Dina (West) Watson in Zanesville, Ohio.

April earned her PhD in clinical psychology and worked as a professor at Stark State College for over 10 years. She loved to travel all over the United States with her family, visiting museums and historical sights, and the occasional trip to Disney World. In her

free time, April enjoyed curling up with a good book, especially mysteries. She loved her family and her pets and will be dearly missed by those who knew her. April made sure those she cared for knew they were deeply cherished with a simple phrase of “I love you more.”

In addition to her parents, April is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Jeremy Cunion; daughters, Mallory and Natalie Cunion; sister, Joy Johnson; parents-in-law, Terry and Cathy Jo Hodgson; sisters-in-law, Stephanie (Jason) Mills, Lisa (Jack) McClelland, and Lori (Brian) Vance; nieces and nephews, Betsy and Felicity Johnson, Tyler, Alex and Zachary Mills, Nate, Isaac, and Ally McClelland, and Cameron and MaKenna Vance. She also leaves behind Mr. Monkey as well as many friends, colleagues, and students.

April is preceded in death by her grandparents, Clare and Margaret West and Thurman and Wilma Watson, and her husband’s grandmother, Rachel Johnson.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Rix Mills Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jill Warner officiating.
