Sailing Into a New School Year

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department is hosting an event meant to prepare children ages 4 to 6, for the upcoming school year.

ZMCHD Public Information Officer Jennifer Hiestand explained how the pirate themed back to school bash aims to educate children and inform parents about the dangers of communicable illnesses. 

“So this is a brand new event, we’re really excited about it. We want to sail into a new school year. So there’s a back to school bash here at the health department, Saturday, July 11th. It’s from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and it is indoors. I just want to clarify that. It’s for children ages 4 to 6 and their families,” Hiestand said.

A treasure map will lead families to different stations filled with fun activities, treasure prizes and collect pieces of a pirate costume at each stop. Additionally, the health department mascot, Fetch, the dog will be there to join the fun. 

“And we also want to say that the Muskingum County Literacy Council is going to be here with activities, as is the Muskingum County Library System and the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office is going to be here doing the free child ID cards. So it’s all about health and safety. We wanted to get on everybody’s calendar before they got all busy. And parents can schedule for upcoming vaccination appointments if they want to. It’s totally up to them. But it’s just a fun and free family event,” Hiestand said.
