C. Wayne Derry

C. Wayne Derry, 90, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on Monday July 6, 2026, at the Beckett House in New Concord.
He was born on August 31, 1935, in Zanesville, Ohio, son of the late Wendell Derry and Ruth (Oliver) Derry. Wayne was a member of the East 40 Church of Christ. He worked his lifetime as a farmer and spreading lime for other farmers with his family; as a heavy equipment operator, and for the Muskingum County Sherriff’s Office as a Deputy for 11 years. Wayne later flew planes and helicopters for the State of Ohio on fire patrol through the summers and presented Smokey the Bear to schools and camps in the winter. He retired as a flight instructor and in his free time, Wayne loved flying and tractor pulls.
Wayne is survived by his children, Richard (Melanie) Derry, Debbie (Bob) Cannaday, Doug (Sharon) Derry; stepson, Phil Braniger; grandchildren: Angela (Lee) Montgomery, Janna (Danny) Briner, Allen (Courtney) Derry, Kelsie (Lance) Curry, Allen (Harriet) Hunter, Chris (Susan) Hunter, Dustin (Kaitlin) Derry, Josh Derry; 23 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; sisters, Bernadine (Gene) Swingle, Linda (Gary) Osborn, Barbara (Joe) Gutridge; sister-in-law, Darlene Derry; special caregiver, Rachel Sutton; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Lee Derry; and 2 great great grandchildren.
The Derry family would like to thank Genesis Hospice and the Beckett House nurses and caregivers for their compassionate care given to Wayne.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday July 9, 2026, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home, where services will be held at 1:00 PM with Pastor Seth Ellis officiating. Burial will conclude at St. Paul Cemetery.
