Meet Muskingum University’s 22nd President

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Dr. Flavius Lilly started his tenure as the 22nd president of Muskingum University on July 1.
Lilly comes into the position with 3 years of experience as provost at McDaniel College and more than 13 years in various positions at the University of Maryland. Lilly shared what those experiences mean as he sits in the president’s office.
“Maryland, of course, is a large institution. Very dissimilar to Muskingum. McDaniel College, however, is quite similar. Small liberal arts college, very personalized attention, small class sizes, just like Muskingum,” Lilly said. “And I’m drawn to that type of education where students get to really know their faculty, and they get to know the staff and relationships are very important and I like that type of community feeling that you can get at Muskingum University. ”
When it comes to his vision for Muskingum University’s future, Lilly says the university has pent-up potential that he is excited to let loose.
“We’re eager to imagine a future where you know we’re really embracing academic program growth and thinking about how we are a regional convener, a problem solver, an engine for development in this part of Ohio,” Lilly said. “So yeah, it’s a very exciting time for the institution and that’s the kind of eagerness that there is here and it pent up. It’s ready to be released and people are, you know, very eager to do what institutions like this do best, which is improve the human condition.”
Muskingum University released a video on Monday introducing Lilly as the new president. If you happen to meet Dr. Flavius Lilly, he says you can call him Flav.
