Delores Ewing

Delores Ewing, 97, of Crooksville, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026, in Genesis ER in Zanesville.
She was born June 22, 1929, in Cumberland, Maryland, to her parents, the late Jerome and Rhoda (Morris) Helmstetter.
To those who knew her, Delores was the radiant heart of her family, a resolute matriarch who cherished her loved ones fiercely and embraced every moment she spent nurturing them. Her role as “Mother” was never set aside for a moment; even as her children grew into adulthood and raised families of their own, Delores lovingly prepared meals for them after long days of work, always tending to their needs with the same dedication she had from the very beginning. Her home was a sanctuary, a place where laughter and warmth were abundant, and where anyone in need could find a hot meal and comforting words. Delores retired after 25 years at Nelson-McCoy Pottery. A steadfast member of the Rose Farm Church of Christ throughout her life, Delores devoted herself to the teachings of Jesus and lived those lessons every day. She read her Bible daily and carried its wisdom with her, offering prayers, advice, and comfort to friends and strangers alike. Delores was a devoted prayer warrior, and her prayers often reached far beyond her own circle, touching the lives of many who counted on her for spiritual guidance and support. She lived her faith in action, caring for the vulnerable, and giving generously of herself, her strength, her time, her resources—without reservation. Family, faith, and friendship were the pillars upon which Delores built her remarkable life. To many, she was a guardian angel, quick to open her home and her heart, ever the first to lend support or a listening ear. Delores’s faith was not just professed; it was practiced. Among her many joys were the simple pleasures that filled her days with meaning, she tended her vegetable garden and cultivated all kinds of flowers, watching beauty bloom beneath her careful hands. Saturdays found her strolling through the aisles of Walmart, and she rarely missed a Black Friday excursion to JC Penny’s, delighting in the bustle and tradition of these family outings. Christmas brought one of Delores’s most beloved traditions—her world-famous Nut Rolls, crafted with love and shipped across the country to delighted friends and relatives. Each year, the making and sharing of her Nut Rolls became a celebration of family and togetherness.
Delores is survived in life by her children, Noreen (Bruce) Satterfield, Eileen (Frank) Jenkins, Diana Marti and Eric (Tina) Ewing; her brother, Wayne Helmstetter; her grandchildren, Von Paraz, Tiana Paraz, Rhoda Gilkerson, Nathan Satterfield, Kayla Lindimore, Heather Jenkins, Jay Jenkins, Josh Jenkins, Shadd Hiles, Donyelle Spring, Eric Marti, Wade Ader, Devon Barbieri, Whitney Forker and Luke Ewing; as well as her great-grandchildren, Kiera, Kanani, Tyler, Katlyn, Cole, Clayton, Kamryn, Annalise, Dawson, Charlie, Delaney, Leah, Chelsey, Kaedynce, Ethan, Makayle and Makreedy.
In addition to her parents, Delores is welcomed into heaven by her husband, Lawrence “Larry” Ewing, her daughters, Carolyn Howell and Sheila Hiles and her siblings, Agnes Harris, Leo Helmstetter and Jerome (Booty) Helmstetter.
Friends and family welcome to pay their respects from 2-4:00 PM and 6-8:00 PM, Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Goebel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 36 North Buckeye St, Crooksville, Ohio.
