Practicing Heat Safety

In the second half of July it feels as if the summer heat has finally arrived with highs nearing 90 this week and when you factor in the humidity feeling like its nearly 100 degrees. With this heat its important to be safe.
While on the job at work or home if you are outside for an extended period of time it is wise to stay hydrated with water and take breaks in air conditioning or if you don’t have the luxury head towards a shady spot as temperatures can feel 10 to 15 degrees cooler.

If you are not on the job but running errands with kids or pets be sure to never leave them unattended in a locked car as temperatures can rise nearly 20 degrees in just 10 minutes.

Even while practicing these tips the heat can get the best of us and its important to know the signs of heat illnesses. While Heat Exhaustion can lead to a dizzy feeling, muscle cramps, or nausea, a Heat Stroke can lead to a throbbing headache, lack of sweat, and a rapid strong pulse. If you experience the later seek medical help right away.
