“The Lion King Kids” brings a roaring good time to the Renner Theatre

Summer Camp

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – It’s the circle of life and it moves us all to the Renner Theatre in downtown Zanesville. The local performance venue is hosting its first-ever summer camp for children to bring “The Lion King Kids” to life on stage

38 children between the ages of 5 and 12 have come to the theatre where they are spending a week preparing for showtime this weekend. Lexie Geyer and Hayden Weck are co-directing the production and have loved seeing the children bond and create new friendships.

“I think my favorite thing is seeing the kids interact with each other. Our Timone and Pumba for example, just met each other and they’re already calling each other besties,” Weck said.

The summer camp isn’t just a chance for performers to strut their stuff. There’s a wide range of behind-the-scenes activities to show kids the different aspects of putting a show together.

“We have some counselors to work with their small groups and I’ve been working to plan some different stations that the kids will go through. They go to like crafts, costumes, make-up. So they get to try lots of different things in a short amount of time,” Geyer said.

So prepare for the chance of a lifetime, be prepared for sensational news, because ‘The Lion King Kids’ takes the stage this weekend. You can see the show on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., and on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
