Backpack giveaway at Zane State College

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- John McIntire Library is giving away library cards during a backpack giveaway for kindergartners.

The backpack giveaway will be on August 5th from 9 to 11 am at Zane State College. In addition to free backpacks, all kindergartners will receive school supplies and an MCLS library card.

“Kindergarten backpack event is a collaboration,” said Director of Libraries Jennifer Spillman. “It speaks volumes about this community. So many organizations get together and provide kindergartners with the supplies for school for free.”
Spillman said she feels a library card is the most important starting school supply a child can have.

“Participating in this event is so important to the library because we want to promote early literacy,” said Spillman “We want to promote education and we want to promote these kids learning to read and write.”
