NEW STRAITSVILLE, Ohio- The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating an officer involved in a shooting that took place August 5th.

The name of those involved have not yet been released as the investigation is ongoing. Public Information Officer, Jill Del Greco, said the shooting occurred at Ed’s Carryout at 123 Main Street in New Straitsville. New Straitsville’s Chief, Andrew Love, said one of his officers responded immediately to an emergency call of someone acting erratically.

“Once he got inside, I can’t go into particulars, but once he got inside, a severe altercation occurred,” said Chief Love. “We had multiple citizens inside. Those folks jumped in and saved the day for my officer. These were his words, they saved his life. It was that severe.”

Del Greco said they are now trying to figure out exactly what happened inside the store. They are also awaiting final autopsy results for the man who died. Chief Love said some of the people inside of Ed’s and the officer involved were “banged around.” Chief Love said he is in constant conversation with the officer who is recovering. Chief Love stated he is extremely thankful for those who helped save his officer’s life.

“They will never know how much it means,” said Chief Love. “I have no words to explain what a police officer feels when you have citizens who support you 100 percent.”
